Dalat climate is characterized by common traits of tropical monsoon climate and plateau climate. The average temperature ranges from 18 to 21°C. Yet, the highest temperature never exceeds 30°C, and the lowest one is not less than 5°C. Dalat has two distinct seasons: rainy season and dry season. The rainy season runs from May to October, while the dry season starts in November and ends in April. In summer, it is often rainy in the afternoon, sometimes hails appear. The average annual rainfall level is 1562 mm, and the humidity is 82%. Storms never occur in Dalat. There are only high winds of typhoons blowing from the sea. Located at an altitude of 1,500 meters and surrounded by mountains and forests, especially pine forest, Dalat City has a temperate mountainous climate all year round. Weather in the city belongs to type of weather in Central Highlands Vietnam. Thanks to the altitude of 1.475m above the sea level, so even belonging to tropical climate, Dalat weather is still cool and pleasant. The average annual temperature in Dalat is 17.8°C, highest in April (19.1°C), and lowest in December (15.7°C). The temperature during a day is from 15°C to 24°C. There are four seasons in a day in Dalat: spring in the morning, summer at noon, autumn in the afternoon, and winter in the evening.

Dry season in Dalat begins in November and ends in April, while rainy season runs from May to October. The characters of monsoon are also reflected clearly through the north-east monsoon in dry season and the south-west monsoon in rainy season. When the north-east monsoon intermittently overflows, weather in Dalat is gradually colder and drier. This is time when the sky is always bright and pleasant. It is also the best time in a year for various tourism activities and sports. In daytime, it is bright and warm; meanwhile, it is mostly cold at night. Also, in this season, the average humidity reaches the minimum level of about 82%. The rainy season in Dalat and in Central Highlands Vietnam occurs at the same time with the operation of south-west monsoon, starting in May and ends in October. During rainy season, north-east monsoon rarely affects Dalat. Dalat will be affected the equatorial air masses from the south moving to the north. The southwest monsoon brings major source of moisture, causing constant heavy rains for several days. Due to the influence of tropical air masses from the Pacific, sometimes Dalat witness several dry periods in the rainy season.

The average monthly temperature in Dalat never exceeds 20°C, even in the hottest months. In winter months, average monthly temperature is above 14°C. According to statistics from 1964 to 1998, the annual average temperature in Dalat was 17.9°C. In 1973, the highest average temperature reached 18.5°C, while 1967 witnessed the lowest average temperature at 17.4°C. Compared to weather in Sapa in the Northwest of Vietnam with an altitude of 1,581 meters above sea level and located in subtropical region, the average temperature in Dalat is 2.6°C higher than that in Sapa. In winter months, the figure in Dalat is 10°C higher than in Sapa. In summer, weather in Sapa is a little colder than that in Dalat.

Diurnal temperature range in Dalat is very large. The average figure reaches 11°C, highest in months of dry season, and lowest in rainy season, about 6-7°C. In contrast, the average amplitude of temperature between months of a year is small; the gap between the warmest month and the coldest month is only 3.5°C. There is no significant diference in day's length of seasons in Dalat, from 11 to less than 12 hours in winter, and 12 hours in summer on average. The total sunshine hours are about 2258 hours per year, mostly in December, January, February and March (dry season).

Particularly, since late October to early December, Dalat looks gorgeous with wild sunflowers along roads. At the end of December, there is Dalat Flower Festival. If traveling Dalat in dry season (November to April), you will have chances to enjoy beautiful sunny days. Dalat, during this season, is an ideal places for couples’ honeymoons. Here, they can contemplate romantic scenery in Love Valley or Liang Bian Mountain. Do not forget to carry an umbrella in case of slight drizzles. That storms never happen even in rainy season is the upside of climate in Dalat. Motorbiking is one of the popular activities here.
