Vietnam delegation actively joins ASCC Meeting

From September 29 to 30, 2014, Vietnam delegation participated in the 12th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting in Myanmar. At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoa actively contributed to the success of the meeting.

From September 29 to 30, the 12th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) Meeting took place in Bagan (Myanmar) with the participation of ministers, leaders of socio - cultural delegations from 10 ASEAN country members. Vietnam delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Nguyen Thanh Hoa actively participated in the activities of the conference. Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa shared the efforts and achievements of key agencies of Vietnam socio-cultural community over the time in the implementation of the ASCC Master Plan, as well as the ASCC priorities in Myanmar president year. The Deputy Minister emphasized that ASEAN should complete the content about the ASEAN's Statement on Climate Change, and the drafted content of Act to promote and protect the rights of migrant workers, as well as enhance efforts to promulgate ASEAN to raise awareness of the people of the community...

 

ASEAN Summit in 2013

 

Acknowledging the role of Vietnam in ASCC Meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Hoa also asked, based on key elements agreed by ASCC ministers, senior officials of the socio-cultural community to pro-actively participate in the construction of detailed socio-cultural content in the vision of ASEAN Community in the period after 2015. At the meeting, ministers focused on reviewing the implementation of the ASCC Master Plan up until the point. They also discussed and agreed on the direction of ASEAN in socio-cultural field of the period after 2015, and the standards for the 25th ASEAN Summit which is scheduled to take place in early November in Myanmar.

Ministers applauded and agreed accomplishments of ASCC over the time. Accordingly, ASEAN deployed and conducted 97% of total events and activities in the ASCC Master Plan. The organization accomplished advances in the goals set, namely, establishing a General Taskforce to promote and coordinate multi-branches in management, disasters reduction, and humanistic aids. Basically, it completed the content of ASEAN's Statement on Climate Change, 85% of the drafted content of Act to promote and protect the rights of migrant workers, and the plan of implementing ASEAN source information center (the first phase) in April 2015 to raise the awareness of regional people about ASEAN and the process of building the ASEAN Community.

 

ASEAN Nations Flags in Jakarta

 

Regarding to the development of ASEAN in the field of society and culture, ministers identified that after 2015, socio-cultural community needs to develop sustainability, resilience and activeness for the sake of people's interests... The main content of society and culture in the vision of ASEAN Community after 2015 should include five key elements. First, it is enhancing commitment, involvement and social responsibility of people through open, effective and beneficial mechanism for all social classes. Second element is creating equal opportunities and access for all citizens. Third, it is protecting, promoting human rights, and ensuring a balance between social development and environmental sustainability. Fourth, it is strengthening coordination and adaptation to cope with emerging challenges. And, finally, it is constantly innovating and becoming an active member in the international community. The ministers had discussed and agreed on the content of ASCC Meeting report proposed to senior leadership for reviewing and approving at the ASEAN Summit held in November in Myanmar. Ending the discussion session, the ministers issued the 12th ASCC statement reflecting the results of discussions at the conference. The 13th ASCC will be held in April 2015 in Malaysia. Previously, from September 27 to 28, the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (SOCA) and the Working Group meeting of ASCC took place.
