Folk Culture and Ethnic Costumes Festival in Dalat

The Folk Culture and Ethnic Costumes Festival will be held in Dalat in 3 days from October 31st to November 2nd 2014. The festival aims to promote National Tourism Year 2014 of Central Highlands - Dalat.

Within the framework of the National Tourism Year 2014 of Central Highlands – Dalat, Dalat will hold Folk Culture and Ethnic Costumes Festival themed “Lac Hong Dance”, in order to introduce unique folk art of ethnic minorities in Dalat in particular and in Lam Dong Province in general.

The main content of the festival is introducing typical features in cultural and festive activities, performing forms of folk music and ethnic dance, holding typical folk games of each region, showcasing traditional costumes of ethnic minorities. This year Folk Culture and Ethnic Costumes Festival has the participation of 36 troupes from provinces of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Bac Kan, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Cao Bang, Can Tho, Da Nang, Dien Bien, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Ha Giang, Ha Nam, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa, Kon Tum, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Lang Son, Lam Dong, Phu Tho, Phu Yen, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, Son La, Tay Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Tien Giang, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai.

Under the provision of the organizing committee, the duration of each performance is 35 minutes; repertoires participating in the festival are required to have storylines and combination between music, lyrics and acting; performances of each troupe are capable of performing independently on streets. In addition, in order to take part in the opening ceremony, each troupe will choose their best performance among which they bring to the festival for the amount of 5 minutes. In the traditional costumes show, troupes will actively select their models; both male and female are allowed. The opening ceremony will be held at half past 7 pm on October 31st and the closing ceremony will be on November 2nd.

Folk Culture and Ethnic Costumes Festival, one of the largest events in the National Tourism Year 2014, will be a great opportunity for artists from provinces throughout Vietnam to meet, exchange, and learn from each other. Besides, it is also a chance for local people in Dalat City to learn more about culture and people from other regions in Vietnam. The festival greatly contributes to introducing unique traditional cultural features of regions and ethnics in Vietnam to a large number of international tourists in Dalat City.

The National Tourism Year 2014 of Central Highlands – Dalat has been officially launched since early this year, aiming promoting and fostering tourism development in the region and localities to attract domestic and international tourists. Themed “Moutains and Forests of the Central Highlands”, it features a series of special programs, cultural activities held in provinces of Central Highlands and several fascinating festivals in Dalat.
