The contest “The Golden Spoon” 2014 is held by Ly’s Horeca brand – the product line especially used for luxury restaurants and hotels of Minh Long Ceramics Company – and sponsored by the General Department of Tourism and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). The festival had the participation of representatives of Minh Long Ceramics Company; culinary experts and artisan in Vietnam; representatives of 7 luxury restaurants and hotels in Hanoi including Bach Duong Restaurant, Sen Hotel, Luc Thuy Restaurant, Larosa Hotel, Cong Doan Tourism Hotel, Long Vi Palace, Quan Bac Restaurant, and White Palace Hotel from Thai Binh Province; and a huge number of diners, tourists, and journals.
Professional chefs from restaurants and hotels in Hanoi brought to the festival Vietnamese foods imbued with typical traditional characteristics such as West Lake shrimp cake, sticky rice cake, Cha ca La Vong (La Vong grilled fish pies), Bun Thang (Vermicelli soup with chicken, egg, and pork), Pho cuon (Rice noodle rolls in Hanoi style), Areca flower dessert, Nem ran (Fried Spring Roll), Bun Cha (Vermicelli with grilled pork), duck braised with dracontomelum, snail fried with pepper, Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup), Quynh Coi fish soup, and so on. These are among the most well-known dishes of Hanoi cuisine in particular and Vietnamese cuisine in general, even promoted and appreciated on world TV channels and travel journals.
“Taste of Home” Cuisine Festival has attracted a large number of tourists and local people to visit and enjoy special dishes. During the festival, visitors had the opportunity to take a first-hand look on the procession preparing a dish of chefs; to be introduced about the original of dishes; and especially to be taught how to process and enjoy foods. Seminar themed “Essence of Vietnamese Cuisine” was held on the same day of the festival. Here, experts and artisans in culinary field shared with visitors about quintessence and the difference of each dish representing each region as well as the cultural features associated with that dish. Tourists, especially international ones, were deeply impressed by the delicious taste of dishes and Vietnamese culinary culture.
On September 24th, the preliminary round of the formal contest “The Golden Spoon” in Hanoi took place with 15 teams and nearly 70 traditional Hanoi foods prepared. This was the final round of preliminary contest of “The Golden Spoon” 2014 in Northern region. The total value of this year contest’s prize reaches over VND 3 billion of which the champion is awarded VND 1 billion.
