It takes only more than one hour from Ho Chi Minh City, we arrive at the Phu Quoc pearl island. Looked from above, Phu Quoc Island is very beautiful among the sea. Being the largest island in Vietnam, this is the natural conversation area of primeval forest and sea. People said that the vast forests hide many exotic things. In addition the paved road, there is the wild and quite beauty of the mountain and forest. The mysterious landscape along with the rolling high mountains makes us more excited and curious in the journey discovering the secrets of this island. The forest is both familiar with the local people, but it also hides so many secrets that their whole life cannot explore completely. They think about the secrets of forest with the respect and apprehension. There is a story about a huge egg on this island that we have heard through the story of many people but we do not know how right or wrong.
The eagle, the huge bird is still brought up and preserved on the island. Local people said that the wings of eagle here have the width of 3 meters and the weight of 30 kilograms. This is suitable for the size of eggs picked up by local people. As the story of local people, we can image the size of this huge bird compared to a person with 1.8 meters tall. The house is located at the edge of forest, a primeval forest or the forest of high trees with the gloomy and thoughtful look. Going deep into the forest, we feel initially a cool and fresh atmosphere. According to the guide, crossing 18 bridges, we arrive at Ganh Dau located about 28 kilometers from Duong Dong Town. The life here is peaceful as many other fishing villages in this gentle strip land. We met Mr. Minh, a veteran who fought on this island in the fierce war days. Now he lives tranquilly in this fishing village. When sitting the medal resistance, he remembers the glorious past. That was the period of hardship living in the forest, hunting the wild animals to supply for the comrades. When meeting us, the old stories were revived. He was enthusiastic to lead us to the place where he lived and hunted wild animals. Following Mr. Minh, we went into a forest protected strictly. For Mr. Minh, the forest has its own signs. There are places we should not come as those places are dangerous or have wild beasts. For us, the forest appears beautifully with the old trees. Going deep into the forest, the hundreds-year roots appear more densely. The ecological system here is very diverse. For him, the forest is the shelter and the place sustaining life of him and his comrades. The time living in those vast forests, he had the chance to see the huge animals on the island.
The python or giant snake is not only in the fairy tales or the legends, according to Mr. Minh, it is real and he saw them. Mr. Minh said that when going hunting, the follow-companion is Phu Quoc dogs that are famous for the smart and prudent. The Phu Quoc forest in the past like a novel, each chapter, section is an attractive story for anyone once hearing about them. The stories about the giant eagle and giant python of local people may be only one of mysterious things that are kept in Phu Quoc forest. The chirping sound of birds and the murmur of the sea waves like the invitation to visitors coming and discovering this mysterious land.
