Danang is a metropolitan city, with skyscrapers, modern bridges, mountain scenery, and some of the best beaches. If you’re looking for an ‘off the beaten path’ destination, Danang should be on your list.

1. Beaches

Danang Beach

Da Nang is surrounded by beaches. Perhaps they are not as breathtaking as the ones you will see in Thailand, but they are very clean. In fact, they are probably the cleanest in South East Asia. Here are some the most beautiful beaches in Da Nang.

1) Non Nuoc Beach

Non Nuoc beach stretches nearly 5 km as a green arc along the foot of Marble Mountain, with a gentle slope, soft waves, white sand, and turquoise water. The waves here are not too big, what makes this beach pretty much suitable for tourists.

2) Bac My An Beach

Located about 7km from the city center to the southeast, Bac My An is quiet and deserted during the day. Da Nang is mostly popular among Asian tourists and those usually wait until it gets a little cooler and the sun is not as strong as white skin is the way to go in Asia. No one wants to get tanned here.

3) Thanh Binh Beach

Thanh Binh is a perfect spot for nature lovers and for those who just want to relax and unwind. It can be easily reached from the city, about 2 km. It has all facilities one will need: rental umbrellas, pool floats, seafood restaurants.  In addition, tourists can try windsurfing, yachting, canoeing.

2. The Dragon Bridge

Dragon Bridge at night

How cool is it that there is a bridge in Da Nang constructed to look like a dragon? By design, the length of the dragon body (concrete and steel dome) is more than 500 meters. The weight of the steel arch is over 1,000 tons.  The bridge is constantly changing colors, from yellow to blue to green to turquoise.

What makes it even more special is the fact that the dragon breathes actual fire at 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday nights. The locals and tourists make a trip to this special architectural landmark of Da Nang to watch gas-powered flames being shot out from the dragon’s head, followed by spouts of water.

3. Marble Mountain

Marble Mountains

Marble Mountain is a cluster of five hills made from limestone and marble. Each mountain is said to represent a natural element and is named accordingly to Water, Wood, Fire, Gold, and Earth. The largest, Water, has a number of grottos and caves. At the entrance of each cave, a torch is available for exploring.  There are many workshops and factories nearby which make marble sculptures and furniture. As well as being a great place to take visitors, it also provides a good work out on a hot day. The views from the top are wonderful, be sure to take a camera as the place is very picturesque.  If you want to be lazy and take the lift (yes, there is a lift), it is 15,000 VND each way.

4. Ba Na Hills

Ba Na Hill overview

What is Ba Na Hills? Nowadays it is an area with a comprehensive hotel, high altitude cable car, and theme park as one of the integrated entertainment attractions. This place was founded by the French colonials in 1919; just several years ago investors jumped in, built and transformed mostly the whole thing. Now tourists can enjoy a beautiful mini French Village, a realistic town consists of a square, a church, shops, eateries, and hotels; the architecture of the buildings was highly inspired by the European buildings which usually dominated with stone and wood.

The Ba Na Hills cable car currently holds the record for the longest cable car ride in the world with 5 KM distance from the starting point to the peak of French Village.

The most interesting thing, when you visit here, Ba Na Hills Fantasy Park - amusement park. To meet the entertainment needs of all ages, the Park was constructed, not only for kids, adults can also participate in the fun games to games thrills.

Visitors can experience all four seasons in just one day at the top of the hills. The mountainous climate creates spring in the morning, summer at noon, autumn in the evening and winter at night. The sky is unusually clear on at these high altitudes, providing visitors clear views of Da Nang city and Son Tra Peninsula year round.

5. Museum of Cham

Museum of Cham

While not as magnificent as the Angkor temple structures in Cambodia, these ancient ruins of the Champa Kingdom are not to be missed. The Champa Kingdom was established in 192 AD, with an agricultural-based economy.

Danang's Cham Museum brings together the most extensive collection of sculpture from the civilization that occupied southern and central Vietnam up until the last remnants of territory were lost to the Viet kingdom in the early 19th century.

The Cham civilization peaked in the 9th and 10th centuries during which time it was a rival of the Khmer kingdom based at Angkor in Cambodia. Bas-reliefs at the Angkor temples depict battles between the Khmer and Cham people.

The Cham were a trade-focused, seafaring people and ethnically distinct from the Vietnamese. They practiced Hinduism prior to a widespread adoption of Islam in the 15th century. Ruins from the Cham civilization are some of the oldest ruins still standing in Vietnam.

Unfortunately, the Cham civilization is an often neglected part of the Vietnam travel experience. Most travelers arrive and leave the country with no knowledge of the Cham kingdom or its former glory.

Don’t miss the opportunity while staying in Da Nang.
