Czech keeps supporting ODA for Vietnam

In the working visit to Vietnam, representative of Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced to continue to support ODA for Vietnam in small-scale projects relating to environment, climate change, and agriculture.

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in the middle of April, the Vietnam delegation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son visited the Czech Republic. In the framework of the visit, Vietnam delegation implemented political consultations with two Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Czech Republic, worked with External Advisory of Czech President, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, and had a cordial meeting with Vietnamese community in Czech.

At the meetings, the Czech Republic highly appreciated important achievements in the innovation in Vietnam, as well as the role of Vietnam in ASEAN in general and in South East Asia in particular. The Czech Republic also confirmed the consistent policy on multiple cooperation and traditional friendship with between Vietnam and Czech in many fields, especially support Czech ODA for Vietnam. Czech also agreed to enhance the coordination with Vietnam at international forums, especially at the forum of The United Nations, ASEM, and ASEAN - EU about common issues.

In terms of development cooperation in order to improve the efficiency and to be consistent with the development of Vietnam economy and society in recent years, the Czech Republic announced to continue to support ODA for Vietnam in small-scale projects in the fields of urgent needs such as environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, and biotechnology for agriculture.

Notably, at the working session, Deputy Foreign Minister of Czech - Mr. Peter Drulak announced that the Czech Congress had completed all internal procedures and would ratify the Vietnam - EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation Agreement soon. The government also defined to support and to finish the European Union and Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). The two sides agreed to cooperate cultural and art activities in each country to celebrate the 65th year of Vietnam - Czech relation (1950 - 2015). The Czech Republic will support Vietnam to organize Vietnam Cultural Week in Czech opened on May 13 in Praha. Two sides are satisfied with dynamic Vietnam - Czech investment and commercial relation over time. The two-way trade turnover in 2014 reached US $249 million, increasing 23% compared to that in 2013. The two sides agreed to closely cooperate to implement the achieved results at the fourth session of the Joint Commission on Vietnam - Czech Economic Cooperation taking place in Hanoi in May 2014.

Besides, the two sides agreed to promote the exchange of visits, especially ministerial, industrial and local delegations to promote bilateral cooperation in depth, efficiency and quality in many areas such as trade and investment, education and training, defense and security, environment, crystal manufacturing industry, pharmaceutics, medical, and local cooperation. In the events, the Czech appreciated the contribution of Vietnamese community in Czech in the development of economy, society and culture of the Czech Republic as well as trade and investment relation and people exchange between the two countries. The country also affirmed that the Vietnamese community was a model for the development of ethnic minorities in the Czech Republic. On issue of the South China Sea, the Czech appreciated the approach of Vietnam and ASEAN in the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, on the basis of international law, and supported ASEAN for playing a central role in linking Asia-Pacific cooperation.
