The ceremony was honored to welcome Vietnam Deputy Prime Ministers, Mr. Pham Binh Minh and Lao Deputy Prime Ministers, Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith. Besides, other leaders, representatives, organizations and residents of Laos and Vietnam also took part in this event. Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnam Prime Minister stated: “Vietnam and Laos are very close neighbors. Citizens in two countries have the traditionally cooperative relationship, which is very close-knit and becomes more and more developed. Until now, along the Viet – Lao border system with 2000 kilometers in length, there are 8 pairs of international borders, 7 pairs of main borders and 16 pairs of other gates. These borders are continuing to contribute a lot to develop economics and society, maintain national security, serve the demand of exchange between two countries, as well as promoting the cooperation in the aspects of trade, import and export among border provinces between two countries. The event also took an important role in the development and prosperity of peoples in two countries”.
“To continue these achievements, the open of La Lay international border gate (La Lay – Quang Tri, Vietnam and La Lay – Salavan, Laos) is an important event and a typical activity representing the traditional relationships, the special solidarity and the comprehensively strategic cooperation between Laos and Vietnam. It is also the result of friendship, comradeship, loyalty which shows the solidarity and mutual trust between leaders and peoples between two countries”, Mr. Pham Binh Minh added.
Serving as one of the most important international border gates in Vietnam, the improvement of La Lay becoming an international border will contribute to create the favorable conditions for cooperating, exchanging and developing between Quang Tri province and border provinces of Laos. In addition, La Lay border gate will improve life and strengthen the development of Laos – Vietnam border system, simultaneously create a new opportunities to cooperate in the fields of economics, trade, investment, and tourism among central provinces of Vietnam, Laos and the southeast of Thailand. And what’s more, the establishment of La Lay international border is to attracts Vietnam, Lao and foreign investors into the area, create foundation for completing the full border’s system of two countries, support for the development of East – West economic corridor, as well as promoting the process of connecting ASEAN countries to establish ASEAN Community in 2015.
