Being blessed with beautiful beaches, unspoiled scenery, and cool climate all the year round, Cu Lao Cham Island, known as the “pearl of Hoi An” is becoming a destination fascinating tourists.

When I was visiting Hoi An Ancient Town, I was told many times about amazingly spectacular landscapes in Cu Lao Cham. Therefore, I decided to take a trip to this island to explore the “preference of nature” as they usually said. From Hoi An, you can take canoe or ship at Cua Dai Beach to reach Cu Lao Cham. My friend preferred thrill so he wanted to go by canoe. Although travelling by canoe would save more time, canoe fare was not fixed. Because we could not negotiate with the driver for a reasonable fare, we decided to get to Cu Lao Cham by ship. The ship left Cua Dai Beach at 8am and took about one hour to reach the island. The fare was quite cheap, only 30,000 VND for one person.

A coner of Cu Lao Cham

About 15 kilometers from Cua Dai Beach, Cu Lao Cham included 8 smaller islands. Here was absolutely not an ideal place for those who wanted to relax in luxury resorts. Cu Lao Cham tourism was not exploited so there were spontaneous hostels of local people in homestay style. We chose a hostel with a price of 40,000 VND one day for a person. My hosts were so friendly and hospitable that they assisted us in going shopping and cooking. Except for cheap and freshly delicious seafood, other necessities were quite expensive because of being transported from the mainland. Learning this earlier, we carefully prepared all our necessities in the mainland. So fortunately!

The first thing I listened here was not introduction about scenic beauty or natural attractions but the slogan “say no to plastic bags”. It was a principle of local people here for keeping the environment clean and green. After arranging our luggage, we hired a motorbike at price of 200,000 VND for one day to visit Cu Lao Cham attractions. The island possessed many beautiful beaches. But the most outstanding beaches were Bai Ong and Bai Chong Beaches. It took 15 minutes from my hostel to Bai Ong Beach. The entrance ticket was 30,000 VND per person. It was an amazing beach with spotless white sand, clean water, calm sea and especially not many tourists.

After swimming in Bai Ong for some hours, we rode our motorbike in the opposite direction to reach Bai Chong Beach. The highlight of Bai Chong was the wonderful vegetation and natural canyons down from the mountain to create incredible grandeur. There were rocks which were corroded by times stacking one against another. All made scenery here become more extremely poetic. Bai Ong and Bai Chong Beach were well-known tourist attractions in Cu Lao Cham which welcomed a large number of tourists; therefore services such as tent leasing, catering and entertainment services here were pretty full.
