Activities in 40th Vietnam - New Zealand relation celebration

In the past 10 years, bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand relation has been strengthened with high-level visits, two-way trade expansion, effectively developing assistance programs, active cooperation in various fields.

In 2009, New Zealand and Vietnam signed a comprehensive cooperation to promote bilateral cooperation. The two countries also cooperated closely in international trade negotiations. Both Vietnam and New Zealand are members of negotiations of Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). To commemorate important milestones in foreign relations of two countries, the Embassy of New Zealand said it would organize a series of exciting events with the theme "New Zealand - Welcoming new things" to introduce about featured characteristics of the country. To celebrate 40 years of Vietnam - New Zealand relation (16/6 /1975 - 16/6/2015), the New Zealand Embassy to Vietnam organized many big activities to introduce the culture, education, food, beverages and tourism. This year, there were the organizations of famous festivals of wine and food of New Zealand in Ho Chi Minh City, in cooperation with a press company to hold a contest on learning about New Zealand and New Zealand people. The award for the winner was a free travel to New Zealand for two. The embassy also actively worked with Jennifer Pham - tourism ambassador in Vietnam to promote tourism in New Zealand.

In addition, in the later 2015, New Zealand Embassy to Vietnam has many interesting activities such as program on fashion quintessence Vietnam - New Zealand cooperation with the participation of best 20 students in fashion major of two countries. In September, the Embassy will invite a Maori art and culture delegation to Vietnam, will participate and promote of education in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City... The ambassador Haike Manning confirmed that acknowledging the potential development with Vietnam, New Zealand establish a comprehensive partnership with Vietnam government, and hoped to raise the relation to strategic cooperation. To specify, the relation between two countries is based on the principle of mutual benefits.

Especially, related to tourism and aviation tourism, Ambassador Haike Manning said that there are many potentials to develop the field. During the visit to New Zealand in March, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and New Zealand counterpart - John Key signed a development agreement for air services. This is an important step in the development of tourism between the two countries. According to recent reports, about 30,000 visitors from New Zealand to Vietnam and often travel to famous destinations in Vietnam such as Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, and Nha Trang... New Zealand expects to see the increase in the number of visitors from Vietnam to New Zealand destinations in the time coming.

In addition, national defense cooperation is also an important part in the relation between two countries. Therefore, the working visit to New Zealand of Minister of Vietnam Defense in 2013 ended with a Vietnam - New Zealand defense cooperation. The focal fields include training and exchange of officers and English refresher courses, and collaboration in peacekeeping. Also, Vietnam recently assumed in the peacekeeping role of the United Nations. Two countries also promote the dialogues between the two defense ministries; thereby, they enable two sides exchanged views on regional security challenges. New Zealand and Vietnam work closely together in regional security issues and build regional security processes such as the ASEAN Regional Forum and ADMM + process.
