On June 6th, the photo exhibition named “My day”, a project teaching photography for poor Vietnamese children in rural areas was held in Ransbach – Baumbach City in Germany for the second time.

The exhibition has introduced 100 photographs which had been carefully selected from 10,000 photos of more than 70 children aged from 9 to 15 years old in Xuan Son Commune, Tho Son District, Thanh Hoa Province. This project was carried out in over 3 months in late 2013, in the framework of “My day” project. The exhibition also displays 50 photographs which reflect life, cultural activities, and festivals of many different ethnic groups in several localities in Vietnam. All photographs have been shot by photographer Vu Thi Bich Hong, an anthropology graduate of Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the founder of My day project and a number of popular Vietnamese photographers.

Previously, photo exhibitions of My day project with the theme of “perspectives of life through lens of little photographers” have taken place in many localities in Vietnam such as Thanh Hoa Province, Hanoi City and Ho Chi Minh City. Exhibitions continue to be held in several schools in other cities through out Vietnam.

The guide introduces all photos to visitors

My day is a charity project teaching poor children in Vietnam rural areas about photography. The aim of project is to tell Vietnamese and international friends the true stories of Vietnamese children, an indispensible part of Vietnamese society, to help poor children in Vietnam rural areas develop their potential. Children under this project are not only taught how to use a camera but also instructed to take pictures and even lent cameras to shoot independently. The result is so unexpected and interesting that surprises teachers. Children who never know how to use a camera capture real-life truthful photographs which makes participants in exhibitions flutter.

Photo collections take by child composers which have been exhibited in Germany show the simple but animated beauty of country and people in Vietnam. Photos feature peaceful country sides and true moments of daily life through perspectives of innocent children. As an example, one photo by Vu Trung Kien, aged 14 years old, tell the story of a mentally-ill girl with her buffalo. Because of her mental problem, she is unable to go to school and is considered an eccentric child. Therefore, she is socially abandoned. That is how the buffalo became her best friend.

In the speech at the opening ceremony of exhibition, Mr. Michael Merz, Mayor of Ransbach – Baumbach City has expressed his good feelings towards My day and the leader of the project, Ms. Bich Hong. He appreciated the creative and humanistic idea of Hong and her counterparts albeit with difficulties in finance, transportation and other conditions. He also added that he would visit Vietnam together with a saxophone artist in the near future for supporting the development of My day project.
