Quang Ninh Airport construction starts in 2015

Quang Ninh Airport is going to be constructed in Van Don District of Quang Ninh province. The appearance of the airport will greatly contribute to the development of Quang Ninh in many field, especially in economy and tourism.

On March 27, 2015, Quang Ninh will start to construct Quang Ninh Airport in Van Don District with a total investment of nearly 7,500 billion dong in the form of BOT (Build - Operate - Transfer). The airfield will be one of important Vietnam airports in northern part. According to Quang Ninh electronic portal, on March 16, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh Province hosted a meeting with investors, departments, and branches to prepare for the project of Quang Ninh Airport. At the meeting, Quang Ninh authorities and Sun Group (investor of the project) fixed the date of starting the project's construction - March 27, 2015. The location of Quang Ninh Airport is in Doan Ket Commune of Van Don District with an area of 290ha.

Previously, Vietnam government approved to assign Quang Ninh province to be the competent authority to invest and build the airport. Quang Ninh Airport will be constructed to become a 4E-class (according to standard of ICAO). The airfield has a runway, an aircraft parking for at least 4 aircrafts of Boeing 777 and Airbus 321. The total invested capital of the project is nearly 7,500 billion dong, including 5,256.9 billion dong of construction and equipment cost, and 734.2 billion of clearance. The project of Quang Ninh airfield is invested in the form of BOT, and the payback time is up to 45 years. The project received consideration of investors in Vietnam such as Vietnam Joinus Co., Ltd., Posco E&C and Korean Airports Corporation (KAC). Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh defined that the project of Quang Ninh Airport is a motivation, creates highlights for Van Don Economic Zone to enhance and attract more investors. This will improve the position of Van Don in particular and Quang Ninh province in general in the future.

According to the plan of Quang Ninh Airport by 2020, there are at least 4 places of aircraft parking (2 for Airbus A321 and 2 for Boeing B777). The airfield has a capability of receiving 2 million passengers per year, and the amount of cargo of 10,000 tones per year. In the orientation by 2030, there are at least 7 positions of aircraft parking (Boeing B777 and equivalent), the capability of receiving passengers of 5 million per year, and the amount of cargo of 30,000 tons per year. With the determination of starting the construction of Quang Ninh Airport on March 27, Quang Ninh is making all attempt to complete the clearane to transfer investor. To serve the construction of this airfield, the area of clearance of projects on roads connecting major axis of functional areas, and primary projects for resettlement in Van Don District with the investment capital of 1,000 billion dong was approved by the province.

Therefore, Quang Trung Campaign came into being to enhance the speed of clearance and early complete infrastructural construction to implement other important projects in Vietnam in general and in Van Don Economic Zone in particular, especially Quang Ninh Airport in Doan Ket Commune (Van Don). The clearance is supported by State budget, while others are mobilized by loans or capitals of investors (BOT form). The project will be completed after two years; the payback time will last for 45 years. The locality sets target that the project is the major work of the economic zone to create motivation for development and appeal more investment. In the future, the airport will become an international commercial aviation center, an excellent service center. The project is expected to increase the exploring ability and promoting the value chain of Halong Bay World National Heritage, contributing to the development of economy in Quang Ninh and tourism in Halong Bay.
