The seminar was held in Vietnam right on the occasion of 100th anniversary of world commercial aviation. The seminar’s content was discussing opportunities and challenges for the development of Vietnam aviation industry. There were over 140 representatives of the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism , authorities in aviation industry, airlines, domestic and foreign businesses participating in the conference.
At the seminar, representatives were discussing opportunities and challenges that airlines were facing in Vietnam market; issues related to aviation policies, development of infrastructure; and plans of Vietnam Airlines in the future to make aviation industry become a public transport safe, reliable to meet global trend and international integration. The seminar also mentioned plans to make air transportation connect Vietnam with the rest of the world in all aspects including economic, culture, politics, and tourism.
According to Mr. Tony Tyler, General Director of IATA, Vietnam is a dynamic and rapidly growing aviation market that brings large profits to the economy. Currently, Vietnam aviation industry has contributed $ 6 billion to Vietnam’s GDP and has created over 230,000 jobs for people. In the period from 2008 to 2013, the number of passengers increased 96%. According to statistics, in 2013, nearly 6 million international tourists visiting Vietnam by air, of which 80% of passengers had contributed more than $ 5 billion to tourism industry.
Addressing at the seminar, Mr. Pham Ngoc Minh, General Director of Vietnam Airlines said that the most important factor for the sustainable development of aviation industry is to guarantee an absolutely safe flight and complete the quality of services for passengers, especially improving the safety net index and ensuring punctuality. Minh also emphasized that airlines should apply urgently programs on safety management of IATA and get certificate of meeting standards of IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA).
According to the IATA’s forecast for the airline industry over the period 2013 to 2017, Vietnam has ranked 7th among fastest growing aviation market with the proportion of international passenger transport reaching 6,9% and international freight transport reaching 6,6%. It is expected that along with the liberalization of aviation in ASEAN, the demand will continue growing since 2015.
Vietnam Airlines has certified IATA Operational Safety Audit or IOSA of safety management in 2006. IOSA is an internationally recognised and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline. For international integration, Vietnam Airlines has actively joined prestigious aviation organizations and alliances worldwide. Vietnam Airline has become a member of IATA since 2006, member of the global airline alliance Skyteam since 2010.
