Week of Mu Cang Chai terraced field 2014

Cultural Tourism Week of Mu Cang Chai terraced field 2014 will be officially held from September 25th to 30th. It is an opportunity for Yen Bai Province to honor Mu Cang Chai terraced field as a national heritage.

Mu Cang Chai is a rural district of Yen Bai Province in the northern Vietnam. Here is most well known for terraced fields which create amazing landscapes stretching down the mountain sides. Therefore, a special festival is held annually to honor the beauty of this attraction. As planned, this year festival will feature some major contents such as fashion shows of office costumes, optional clothes and traditional ethnic costumes; fairs in mountainous areas with 14 stalls displaying and selling local products and specialties, pounding cake competition of Hmong people, trade fairs, portable movie theater, portable library and community tours… In addition, a large number of fascinating cultural activities will take place on this occasion such as programs of winemaking, tool forging, rice cake pounding, and instrument playing, which will be held at Highway 32 from Tu Le Commune to the center of Mu Cang Chai District.

Cultural Tourism Week of Mu Cang Chai terraced field 2014 is a practical activity to honor the national heritage Mu Cang Chai terraced field as well as cultural values of ethnic minorities in the district; an opportunity to strengthen sustainable tourism connection between regions in the Northwest Vietnam; and also a special festival supporting World Tourism Day on September 27th. On this occasion, Mu Cang Chai District will continue promoting charming attractions, introducing cultural features as well as typical traditional products of Hmong people to tourists over the world.

Currently, related agencies, communes and towns are completing preparation for this important event. Ms. Luong Thi Xuyen, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Mu Cang Chai District, said that thanks to the previous successful Cultural Tourism Week of Mu Cang Chai terraced field in 2013, the organizing committee has learned many precious lessons and experiences. Therefore, this year, units participating in the festival have basically completed preparations complying with following criteria: safe, economical, effective, and lively. It is worth expecting a colorful and dynamic festival that attracts a huge number of local people, domestic and international tourists.

 

Mu Cang Chai - Terraced fields

 

Terraced fields are among the most well-known attractions in Vietnam. Terraced fields appear not only in mountainous areas of Mu Cang Chai but also in Sapa, one of the most popular destinations in Vietnam. Recently, Vietnam terraced field has been honored by Mother Nature Network as one of most beautiful places in the world. According to the magazine, Vietnamese did something that seemed impossible. It is creating enormous terraced fields among jungle for cultivation. Terraced fields have varied beauty in different times. Sometimes it is gorgeously green, sometimes it is covered with golden yellow. Terraced field is praised as the place of “Agriculture at its best … and most beautiful”.
