On October 29th, Halong Bay's Management Board in collaboration with Department of Information and Communication held a press conference to announce activities and programs in the 20th Anniversary of UNESCO Recognition to Halong Bay as the World Heritage (17/12/1994 - 17/12/2014). In the morning October 30th, Ms. Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Vice President of Halong People's Committee chaired a meeting to supervise the preparation of the anniversary. Accordingly, up to the present, all preparations are basically finished.
With nearly 2000 limestone islets and islands in various sizes and shapes, Halong Bay was first time recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 because of its geological, geographical, geomorphological values. The geographical diversity of the environment in the Bay has created biodiversity involving a tropical evergreen bio system and oceanic and sea shore bio system. Halong Bay's 20-year World Heritage Anniversary is not only a meaningful event containing political significance and cultural and social values but also an occasion for Quang Ninh to propagate and introduce Halong Bay – one of outstanding World Heritages in Vietnam to international friends. Through the event, the province aims to call joint actions of both local citizens and foreign visitors to protect, preserve and promote the heritage's values.
Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Duong, Head of Halong Bay Management Board, shared that Quang Ninh would organize many cultural activities to celebrate this event such as art performance "Memory of 20 years Halong Bay being recognized as a world natural heritage" and a Culinary Festival introducing royal cuisine. Especially, a photo and souvenir exhibition will be organized to display photos of 8 other world heritage sites in Vietnam. Meeting and art performance to celebrate 20 years Halong becoming the world heritage will officially take place in the evening November 1st with attendance of more than 300 famous singers, models, actors and actresses.
Besides, Quang Ninh also organizes a seminar on "Conservation and sustainable promotion Halong Bay - Natural World Heritage Site with an objective of evaluating the results of previous actions and sharing experiences and solutions. As estimation, the seminar will welcome 143 professionals, scientists, managers, and representatives from local and international organizations to participate in. In addition, Quang Ninh Tourism Association will hold a conference with a theme “Enterprises accompanying with Halong Bay – the World Heritage Site” to strengthen the image of Halong Bay, exchange experience, motivate for sustainably developing Halong Bay tourism, create and develop specific and highly competitive tourism products, and increase the attractiveness of Halong Bay to both domestic and foreign travelers.
