According to the Organizing Committee, under the permission of Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, dance performing arts of the Cham ethnic minority group will take place at 7.30 pm in every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in Steak House Restaurant (Furama Da Nang Resort). The performance is open free for both domestic and international foreigners traveling in the coastal city Da Nang. This type of Vietnamese dance performing arts is attached to traditional festival of Cham community. This is also an occasion for Cham people to express their gratitude to their kings and to those who made significant contribution to the construction of the country.
This is a wonderful opportunity for tourists to learn more about this ancient Vietnamese culture – the flourishing Champa way of life. During 30-minute performance, visitors not only have chance to see Cham dance but also be introduced to videos about the history of Champa as well as Da Nang city. Besides, an introduction to the famous Cham museum in Da Nang will allow the guests to expand their cultural knowledge of this very special cultural symbol of Vietnam.
Cham community has presence in some provinces in Vietnam such as Ninh Thuan, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, the southwest of Binh Thuan, the northwest of Phu Yen, and so on. Cham culture is under the influence of different cultures including India, Sa Huynh, Oc Eo, Dong Son, and China. Distilling the quintessence of these cultures, Cham culture creates itself exceptional and impressive features. Cham community is not only famous for its traditional folk festivals (Rija Nưgar, Katê, Rija Praung...); its traditional crafts (pottery, weaving, cotton fibers...); and its special architecture but also well-known for Cham dancing performance.
Cham dancing is an important part in cultural and spiritual life of Cham ethnic groups. The dance is attached to its typical and renowned festivals such as Rija Nưgar, Katê, Rija Praung... This is also an occasion for Cham people to express their gratitude to their kings and to those who made significant contribution to the construction of the country. Cham dancing is often performed with traditional ethnic instruments such as Ginang drum, Baranưng drum, gong, Xaranai trumpet, etc. Cham dancing can be divided into two different types including folk dance and royal dance. Cham dance is a wonderful combination of colors, music, and dance.
It can be said that Cham dancing is a precious art treasures of Cham people in particular and Vietnamese people in general. Bringing Cham dancing in Da Nang tourism activities not only contributes to preserved the quintessence of ethnic art but also promote the images of Cham dancing to international friends.
