World Travel Market (WTM) is one of the leading tourist events worldwide, gathering a large number of buyers, sellers, and popular brands in tourism industry to introduce products, seek partners, sign contracts, and so on. It is a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business. Launched at London’s Olympia in 1980, this time is the 35th WTM to be held.
Within the framework of this year fair, there are over 100 events taking place during 4 days. In addition to exhibitions, exchanges, and meetings between tourism organizations and travel companies around the world, there are conferences, seminars with the participation of governmental representatives and experts referring to the trend of global tourism development, responsible travel, cruise tourism, and announcement of World Travel Awards. Especially, there will be two new topics to be mentioned in this fair, including health tourism and the role of mobile phone in travel. Health tourism is a form of high-class tourism which combines travel, spa, and cure. It is reported that tourist deal facilitated by WTM 2013 is 2 billion Euro following on from WTM 2012 which generated a record 1.8 billion Euro in travel industry contracts between exhibitions and buyers from the WTM Buyers’ Club (formerly called WTM Meridian Club). It is anticipated that WTM 2014 will break the record and facilitate a larger number contracts.
Under the implementation of National Tourism Promotion 2014, the General Department of Tourism in coordination with the Aviation Corporation of Vietnam (Vietnam Airlines) will organize a Vietnam’s booth at WTM 2014 in order to promote an image of Vietnam “safe, friendly, attractive” to international friends, simultaneously, to open up new opportunities for tourism in Vietnam to learn, exchange experiences of tourism development with countries over the world. Vietnam’s booth at WTM 2014 expectedly has an area of 120 square meters to display a number of photographs of famous landscapes and destinations in Vietnam. Besides, the booth also acts as a place for holding press conferences and cocktail parties. All activities aim to promote Vietnam tourism effectively in the fair.
In recent years, the UK market in particular and the European market in general are always appreciated as the key market of Vietnam tourism. According to the figures from the General Statistics Office, there have been about 124,277 tourists from the UK visiting Vietnam in the first 7 months of 2014, increasing 17,9% compared to that of the same period in 2013.
