Recently, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Department of Tourism has had an official meeting with representatives of BBC on plans to promote Vietnam tourism on this channel in Hanoi.

BBC standing for British Broadcasting Corporation is the world’s oldest national broadcasting organization and the largest broadcaster worldwide with about 23,000 staff. Therefore, Vietnamese authorities assess that if Vietnam destinations are broadcasted on BBC, the benefits brought to Vietnam tourism and economy will be enormous.

At the meeting on September 5th, representatives of BBC introduced to Tuan, the General Director, about models of BBC media channels, the number of audiences of BBC, simultaneously suggesting plans of promoting Vietnam tourism on BBC Channel. Accordingly, BBC will make a video clip promoting destinations in Vietnam which is 30 seconds in length. This clip will be broadcasted on BBC channels in Asia Pacific region 3 times a day in 3 months, 1 time on primetime everyday. BBC also provides a short video clip about Vietnam tourism that is attached to news on BBC website.

Talking to representatives of BBC, Tuan said that video clips should be filmed to ensure the updating of destinations, the uniformity in the use of modern technical means. Filming ad clips also need to be conducted immediately to take the advantage of the good weather in fall. He will direct the implementation of filming clips. Clips will be made in Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ho Chi Minh City, Ninh Binh, Sapa, Quang Binh, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An and another province in Mekong Delta. Video clips need to be made immediately in order to be broadcasted on October. Images and introductions about Vietnam in 30-second clips are so charming, graceful that highlight attractive characteristics of Vietnam. It is simple street foods; typical cultural features like cyclo, water puppet, traditional costumes; the natural beauty of Halong Bay; essence of Hanoi architecture; unique beauty of ethnic minorities in mountainous areas; the attractiveness of beaches in the Central region; and the dynamism and modernity of Ho Chi Minh City.

Tuan has also appointed the Department of Tourism Market to keep contact with BBC for further discussion about detailed content of video clips to bring the highest efficiency in the process of cooperation, simultaneously asking BBC to provide the list of Asian countries broadcasting video clips of Vietnam tourism promotion, checking whether those countries are potential market of Vietnam tourism.

Earlier, promotion clips of tourism in Vietnam were broadcasted on BBC World News in 2009. Currently, Vietnam tourism has been broadcasted on several world channels such as KBS World (world Korean channel), CNN, and VTV4 (Vietnamese channel for foreign people). This promotion plan not only helps increasing the number of international tourists to Vietnam but also contributes promulgating image of Vietnamese culture and people to the world.
