The press conference was held at Inter-Continental in Hanoi with the participation of Mr. Bui Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of the Department of Tourism, Mr. Le Hai Binh, spokesman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and representatives from a number of foreign news agencies popular travel magazines.
At the press conference, Mr. Ho Tuan Anh informed outstanding achievements of Vietnam tourism in recent years, efforts and plans aiming to promote Vietnam’s image as a destination safe, friendly, and attractive to tourists. Recently, despite facing many challenges, Vietnam tourism still maintains stable growth on term of the number of tourists as well as revenue of tourism. By 2013, the number of international tourists visiting Vietnam has reached 7.57 million, increasing 10.6% compared with that of 2012. The number of domestic tourists has reached 32.5 million, increasing 7.7%. The total revenue from tourism services has been 200 trillion VND, increasing 25%. Anh said that in order to maintain growth as well as economic benefits from tourism, a number of key areas for tourism development have been established. The mandate is to develop high-quality products, diversify products of cultural tourism, beach tourism, and eco-tourism. To achieve those aims, it is required to strengthen the environmental management, and ensure safety and security for tourists.
At the press conference, representatives of news agencies and newspapers have questioned about solutions implemented to enhance security and safety of tourists. They were also interested in Vietnam’s tourism policies in order to improve the quality of tourism products today. In response to all questions from reporters and journalists, Deputy General Director of Department of Tourism, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, affirmed that Vietnam has been implement measures to ensure the best security, safety and service quality for tourists. Regarding policies to improve quality of tourism products, tourism of Vietnam is carrying out synchronous measures, focusing on training human resources and connecting tourism of cities and provinces. In the near future, the port system will be invested in to welcome international tourist delegations in large numbers.
Under the plan, after the international press conference, from July 9th to 15th, the Presstrip delegation including foreign journalists will visit some of popular destinations in Vietnam such as cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, provinces of Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Tien Giang. Through this visit, they will experience real situation of tourism in such destinations so that they can review and assess precisely about Vietnam tourism, contributing to promoting widely images of Vietnam as a destination of safety, friendly, and attractiveness.
