VASCO flights exploited in Mekong River Delta

From January 26, 2015, VASCO flights are exploited in region of Mekong River Delta, which replaces some flights of Vietnam Airlines here. This is a great and significant opportunity for VASCO to become an important carrier in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam Airlines, VASCO (Vietnam Air Service Company) will replace Vietnam Airlines to conduct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Rach Gia, Phu Quoc and Rach Gia/Can Tho, and flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc with Vietnam Airlines. In the morning of January 26th, the first flight (ATR72) carrying 64 passengers from Phu Quoc International Airport to Can Tho Airport was implemented by VASCO. It is expected that, in the future, Vietnam Airlines will continue to transfer more routes to the VASCO, to develop business scale and the exploitation of VASCO; thereby, it will meet the increasing travel needs of customers.

Mr. Le Tuan Huy, Representative of VASCO in Can Tho said that this was the first flight in the implementation of VASCO multiple-route exploitation in Mekong River Delta from Vietnam Aviation Corporation (Vietnam Airlines). The plan has an aim to develop and make VASCO become an important carrier of the Corporation in Mekong River Delta. According to Mr. Huy, from January 26th, VASCO will undertake routes between Phu Quoc and Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and Rach Gia with the frequency of 7 flights per week, and between Phu Quoc and Rach Gia with two flights per week on Tuesdays and Sundays. Vietnam Airlines and Vietnam Air Service Company VASCO will exploit route Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc.

Currently, the highest airfare without tax and fee for flight from Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc is 1,450,000 VND/turn, and the cheapest one is 500,000 VND/turn. Meanwhile, the highest ticket price without tax and fee of flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Rach Gia is 1,150,000 VND/turn, and the cheapest one is 300,000 VND/turn. The route between Phu Quoc and Rach Gia, and the route between Phu Quoc and Can Tho have the rate from 350,000 VND to 1,150,000 VND per turn. Especially, in the first week of launch, the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc is only 680,000 VND / turn, while the flight from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc is 515,000 VNDturn (including taxes and charges).

Mr. Vu Duc Bien, Deputy Director of VASCO said that at presents provinces in Mekong Delta are attracting many projects of investment, and tourism in Mekong Delta is developing rapidly. That VASCO opens routes in the Mekong Delta, especially Can Tho-Phu Quoc flights has significant meaning in attracting more domestic and international tourists to Can Tho and other provinces in the region. This is a big step to help VASCO become an important independent commercial airline in the future.

Before, when the airline moved into the model of company, beside traditional activities of flying to taking photo s of terrain and geological survey, VASCO has expanded, diversified air activities. In years from 1993 to 1997, VASCO partnered with Helijet, Region Air, Air Seoul, Tex Air and Helicopter New Zealand... as a tourism taxi, oil and gas service, search and rescue, medical emergency, 500 KV power lines maintenance, geological survey, planting trees, etc. by helicopter and by small-wing aircrafts. In the period of 2001-2006, VASCO joined freight market and cooperating with Vietnam Airlines to fly to other countries in the Indochina region and FedEx on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Subic Bay in Philippine. VASCO was certified as AOC (Aircraft Operator) by Department of Vietnam Aviation in 2001.

According to VN Airlines orientation, since mid 2004, VASCO officially transported passengers from Ho Chi Minh City  to Southern domestic airports, opening a new phase in its history of development. From 2004, VASCO has been got strong pace of developments, average growth rate is 15% per year. Flight routes are expanded to Ca Mau, Con Dao, Tuy Hoa, Chu Lai, and Can Tho …. And, the airline plays its role as commuter airline for Vietnam Airlines. Apart from activities in service flight, VASCO also takes a role as a multi-functioning airline when carries out the operation and maintenance service for private aircrafts.
