Vietnam Airlines launched new route Phu Quoc - Singapore

On November 2nd, 2014, Vietnam Airlines officially launched route Phu Quoc – Singapore. The launching of these Vietnam airlines new routes will create favorable conditions to contribute to promote and develop exchanges between Vietnam and Singapore.

Phu Quoc – Singapore air route will be operated with the frequency of 2 flights per week on every Thursday and Sunday by Airbus 32. The flights will depart from Phu Quoc International Airport at 10.55 am and from Singapore Changi International Airport at 2.50 am (local time) with the expected flight time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. According to Vietnam Airlines Corporation, the increase of the frequency of flight from Phu Quoc to Singapore is depending on market conditions and the effectiveness of the operation. This is the second international flight from Phu Quoc to other countries. The first one launched in mid-March, 2014 is from Phu Quoc to Russia.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Minh - General Director of Vietnam Airlines said that the first international route from Phu Quoc to Singapore would contribute to connect Phu Quoc with the outside world and create favorable conditions to develop economic and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and other countries. This is an essential project to meet the increasing travel demand and promote Phu Quoc to become an important economic zone of the country in future. "The opening of Phu Quoc - Singapore flights is in accordance with an expanded plan of Vietnam Airline flights network to enhance Air Vietnam's strengths compared to other competitors.” Mr. Minh emphasized.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Transportation Nguyen Van The stated that the launching of Phu Quoc - Singapore air route was a coherent policy to develop this island district. Deputy Minister also required Vietnam Airlines to continue to implement other plans to connect Phu Quoc with other regions in the country and other nations.

Phu Quoc Island

In December 2012, Phu Quoc International Airport was officially put in operation. One year later, the airport served nearly 700,000 passengers increasing 39% in comparison to 2012 with 37% international passengers. In the first 10 months in 2014, the airport served more than 800,000 passengers, a year-on-year increase of 53%. It is expected that at the end of this year, Phu Quoc International Airport will serve approximately 1 million passengers. As expected, in mid-December, 2014, the airport will continue launching Vietnam airlines new routes from Phu Quoc to Siem Reap (Cambodia). The opening of new international air routes not only meets travel demands of both domestic and international passengers but also contribute to introduce and promote Phu Quoc tourism. This also creates favorable conditions to contribute to socio-economic development of the island.
