These days, Phu Quoc has welcomed approximately 5,000 – 6,000 tourists each day. As estimated, the number of tourists will be continued in the next days. Hotels, hostels, boarding houses … in Phu Quoc are in an overloaded condition with over 4,000 accommodations are booked in advance by travelers. Flights from Hanoi to Phu Quoc and from Ho Chi Minh City to Phuc Quoc have reached 20 flights per day. Besides, flights from Russia to Phu Quoc are stable with 6 flights per day and are expected to raise up to 10 flights each day to serve international tourists travelling this island. The number of Russia visitors accounts for the large proportion in the foreign tourists in these days.
After the first two quarters in 2014, Phu Quoc Island received about 268,000 travelers, reached 53.6% of the plan, and increased 26% in comparison to the same period. The number of international visitors is about 72,620 people, achieved 48.4% of the plan, and rose 34.8% compared to the same period. The total revenue from tourism is 1,014 billion VND, reached 50.7% of the plan, and raised 52.4% when comparing to the same period. Besides some tourist attractions like Dinh Cau, Phu Quoc National Forest, Gianh Dau, Cua Can, An Thoi, Ham Ninh, and Ho Quoc Pagoda, Vietnam Communist Prisoner Relic has attracted a great deal of local and foreign tourists with over 4,810 groups of visitors.
Phu Quoc authority has directed the related people and agencies to strengthen regular inspections, control security in tourist destinations and resorts, inflict punishments to not only people who overcharge tourists for their products and services, but also people causing visitors inconvenience. The authorities also requires to carefully inspect the transportation vehicles, especially passenger transport, ensure the safety of tourists on the beaches, organize rescue forces to save and salvage immediately on the emergency cases and guide visitors to swim in safe areas.
Phu Quoc leaders will also continue to support, create favorable conditions for investors and contractors to accelerate the construction of new tourism projects and implement the other projects. According to Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, it is expected to launch a variety of advanced resorts, 4 – 5 stars restaurants and hotels with over 2,000 accommodations serving the needs of tourists. To enhance the service quality in Phu Quoc tourism, leaders of the island have also focused on training human resources reaching the professional standards.
