This is the second time Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Festival to be held. The festival aims to exploit strengths of Hanoi in developing tourism of traditional craft villages. According to Mr. Mai Tien Dung, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this year festival is held in the spirit of “Hanoi for the country”. Therefore, Hanoi has invited craft villages of cities and provinces throughout the country to attend. Participated craft villages of other provinces get maximum support in choosing booth free of charge and setting them.

The festival space is divided into several areas. The area of Hanoi traditional craft villages has 143 booths which are places to exhibit, introduce and sell products. Activities in which artisans will perform their amazing skills to create hand-made products will take place here. The cuisine area expectedly has 68 booths that promote Hanoi cuisine and perform the procession of foods. The area of tourism exhibition consists of 56 stalls where travel companies and airlines introduce tours visiting craft villages and tourism stimulus programs to visitors. Especially, the organizing dedicates an area to folk games such as water puppet, stilt walking, tug of war, and so on.

An interesting feature of the festival is that visitors will have the opportunity to take part in some steps in procession of making products, for example painting patterns on pottery, knitting rattan. Being aware that not all tourists are able to visit the original places of traditional crafts, in the framework of this festival, the organizing will held tours departing from Quan Ngua sport palace to traditional craft villages in Hanoi for a period of half a day or one day. Those tours are expected to help tourists learning more about Hanoi culture.

Mr. Mai Tien Dung also added that since the time of the festival is on October, the attention of tourists is not as high as in peak seasons, the organizing committee only allows enterprises having products suitable with criteria of the festival to participate in. Firstly, their products require to be related to craft villages. Secondly, since stimulus programs are being implemented, prices of tours or flights have to discounts to encourage people to travel.

Hanoi is truly rich in tourism potentials but it still has some aspects and advantages that have not been fully exploited yet. Hanoi Traditional Craft Village is expected to create a big step for the development of Hanoi tourism and economic growth of traditional craft villages.
