Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Festival 2014 was honored to welcome the attendance of Deputy Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Tourism - Mr. Ho Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade - Mr. Do Thang Hai, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee - Mr. Nguyen Cong Soai, Head of the Department of Propaganda - Mr. Ho Quan Loi, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee - Mr Vu Hong Khanh, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Council - Mr. Le Van Hoat, and other representatives of departments and agencies and mass media.
Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Festival 2014 is an annual event to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Hanoi Liberation Day (10/10/1954 - 10/10/2014). The festival aims to honor, preserve, and develop traditional craft villages in Hanoi and other provinces of the country and effectively promote traditional village tourism. The development of craft village tourism is the right way to preserve and honor traditionally cultural values, simultaneously, to contribute to the diversification of tourism product and the socio-economic development of the capital. This is also a good opportunity to strengthen exchanges and co-operation in the development of culture and tourism among Hanoi craft villages, Hanoi tourist enterprises and domestic and international firms.
According to the organizing committee, this year festival has attracted the participation of nearly 400 exhibition booths represented for many traditional villages and Hanoi famous artisans with diverse products involving ceramics, rattan, sea grass, embroidery, textiles, paper, folk painting, wood carving, bronze casting, etc. Besides, the festival welcomed the attendance of travel agencies, hotels, airlines, special culinary booths imbued with Hanoi culture. In addition, the event also attracted the participation of 15 Korean cuisine booths introducing special dishes of the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee - Mr Vu Hong Khanh stated that nowadays, there are over 1,000 handicraft villages in Hanoi with 300 villages recognized as traditional handicraft villages. In recent years, with the support of the ministries and departments as well as the dynamics of local businesses, Hanoi tourism positive flourishes. To develop traditional craft village tourism commensurate with the existing potential, Hanoi capital will continue to develop and promote tourism products of traditional handicraft villages through exhibitions, fairs, and developing programs of these villages. These actions aim to implement the objectives of Vietnam tourism development strategy and the overall planning of Hanoi Tourism Development in 2020.
Within the framework of the festival, many activities and programs were be organized to honor traditional handicraft villages, typical artisans, cultural performances, martial arts demonstrations, and other activities imbued with traditional folklore. Hanoi Traditional Craft Village Festival 2014 is expected to last until October 12th.
