Taking place from November 20th to 23rd, ASEAN Great Utility Days was held with many activities including introducing ASEAN tourism, country's image and people; promoting traditional sports of ASEAN countries; introducing ASEAN cultural heritages, etc. With the attendance of embassies from ASEAN countries, art groups, Vietnamese ethnic minority groups from different provinces of the countries involving Hoa Binh, Son La, Binh Thuan, Kon Tum, Dak Lak ..., ASEAN Unity Days in Hanoi was a great occasion for its members to introduce the country's image, culture and people and make efforts to preserve and promote the value of cultural heritages in the region.
The opening ceremony of the event took place in the evening of November 21st in Dong Mo, Hanoi. The ceremony was started with ASEAN flag raising ceremony welcoming the attendance of Secretary General of ASEAN Le Minh Luong and embassies from different countries in ASEAN such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand ... Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh stated: "ASEAN is attempting to become a powerful community in 2015. In this new stage of development, developing ASEAN Community become united with a motto "One vision, one identity, one community" is a common objective of all ASEAN members. To achieve this goal, culture is an important factor to make ASEAN become a "common house" for all peoples of ASEAN community."
In the framework of ASEAN Utility Days, a wide range of activities were held to celebrate the event including activities to introduce traditional costumes, traditional handicrafts, folk songs and dances, folk games, festivals, traditional culture and so on. Besides, artisans and artists coming from Hanoi, Bac Ninh, and Hue and Vietnamese professional art troupes performed special repertoires to introduce Vietnam intangible cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO such as Ca Tru, Quan Ho, Don Ca Tai Tu, Hue Court Music...
The highlight of the event was recreating Vietnamese traditional festivals. Attending in the events, visitors had chance to learn more about festivals and special customs of 54 ethnic groups. On November 23rd, 2014, the closing ceremony took place at 8.00 pm to 9.45 pm. A series of activities in ASEAN Great Unity Days has contributed to spread the values of rich traditional culture of Vietnam. This was also a good opportunity to promote cultural heritages of ASEAN community in general and Vietnam in particular to strengthen understanding and co-operation in all fields of politics, economy, culture, and society.
