InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, under the InterContinental Hotels Group or IHG, is one of the most luxury hotels in Hanoi. IHG is a British multinational hotels company with a net work of over 4,600 hotels around the world, of which 3,934 operate under franchise, 658 are managed by the company and 10 are directly owned. IHG Green Week is an annual event marking the collaboration between hotels under InterContinental Hotels Groups and raising responsibility of enterprises for the environment. Reportedly, 2,646 hotels are now enrolled in IHG Green Engage and over 16,000 green solutions were implemented during 2013.
Participating in IHG Green Week 2014, hotels improved activities associated with the environment, including measuring positive and negative impacts on the environment, cutting down on energy and water consumption, reducing waste and emission, simultaneously, raising awareness of staffs and customers of environmental issues. Specifically, objectives of IHG in 2014 are working with all hotels enrolled in IHG to make best use of the tool to help them reduce their environmental impacts and operating costs; launching a goal-setting feature in IHG Green Engage which will enable hotels to contribute to IHG’s sustainability targets and track against these during the year; and supporting travel buyers by providing information about the environmental impact of hotels.
In addition, with the aim of bringing IHG Green Week 2014 closer to the staff, a series of events connecting human to the environment is held such as launching training courses on green enterprises, growing plants, building aquatic floats, offering green menu for environment, implementing free cyclo trip around Hoan Kiem Lake and encouraging employees to travel by public transport, or bike.
According to General Director of InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, Mr. Adam McDonald said that the hotel’s model of green enterprise is developed on the basis of another model named “a trio of core sustainable factors” including economic values, health and environment, and social development. IHG always appreciate the connection between the hotel and surrounding environment. They, therefore, do not only concentrate on making a better life for their employees but also care about environmental issues in the current times.
